What OLD GLORY Means to Me
By Kris Martin

I was seven years old when our country was attacked on September 11, 2001. I saw it on television. I also saw when the brave firefighters raised the flag at "Ground Zero". I learned that it stood for the unity of the American people in times of trouble.

I say the Pledge of Allegiance everyday in school. When I say it I feel that it is a promise to respect and be loyal to our flag and country.

About two months ago, I was going to bed and my clock read 9:11. I don?t know why, but it came to me to say the pledge. Since then, whenever my clock reads 9:11, I say it.

To me, our flag is beautiful! It stands for a strong country that takes care of its own people and is secure enough to help other people in need.

An example of this is the assistance we are sending the tsunami-affected countries. The American flag is on all ships, planes and choppers. It is also on all of the uniforms of our service people.

These events show me the true meaning of "Old Glory".
